These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of shsat-scorecalculator.com (the "Site"). By using the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

1. The Site

SHSAT Score Calculator is a free educational resource for students and families preparing for the New York City Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT). The Site provides:

  • A score calculator that converts raw scores to estimated scaled and composite scores
  • Free practice tests
  • Educational content about SHSAT scoring, NYC specialized high schools, and the admissions process

The Site is not affiliated with the New York City Department of Education, NYC Public Schools, MySchools NYC, or any specialized high school. It is an independent resource.

2. Eligibility

The Site is available to anyone with internet access. There is no minimum age to use the Site itself; however, users under the age of 13 should use the Site with the supervision and consent of a parent or guardian, in accordance with our Privacy Policy and the United States Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

3. Use of the Calculator and Practice Tests

3.1 The calculator is an estimation tool

The score calculator on this Site produces estimates only. The official SHSAT scoring formula is proprietary to the NYC Department of Education and is not publicly released. Our calculator uses publicly available data and reasonable mathematical modeling to approximate scaled scores. Actual SHSAT scores reported by the NYC DOE may differ from the estimates produced by this tool.

3.2 Practice tests are practice only

The practice tests on this Site are not official NYC DOE materials. They are designed to simulate the format and difficulty of the SHSAT for preparation purposes. They do not predict your actual SHSAT performance with certainty.

3.3 No guarantee of admission

The Site does not guarantee admission to any specialized high school. Admission is determined solely by the NYC DOE based on official SHSAT scores, applicant rankings, and seat availability. The Site is not authorized to make admissions decisions or commitments.

4. Intellectual Property

4.1 Site content

All content on the Site — including text, graphics, logos, the calculator code, practice questions, and design — is owned by the operators of the Site or licensed to them, and is protected by United States and international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

4.2 Permitted use

You may:

  • View and read content on the Site for personal, non-commercial use
  • Use the calculator and practice tests for your own SHSAT preparation
  • Print or save individual pages for personal use
  • Share links to Site pages on social media and in personal communications

4.3 Prohibited use

You may not:

  • Reproduce, redistribute, or republish substantial portions of Site content without written permission
  • Use Site content for commercial purposes (including in paid tutoring materials or competing prep services) without a license
  • Scrape, harvest, or systematically extract content using automated means
  • Reverse-engineer the calculator with the intent to copy or compete with it
  • Remove, modify, or obscure copyright notices, trademarks, or attribution
  • Use the Site in any way that violates US, state, or local laws

4.4 Citation

You may quote brief excerpts from Site content for educational, journalistic, or commentary purposes with proper attribution: "Source: SHSAT Score Calculator (shsat-scorecalculator.com)."

4.5 Embed license

The Site may offer an embeddable version of the calculator. If you embed the calculator on your own site using the official embed code provided by us, you may do so without separate written permission, provided the "Powered by SHSAT Score Calculator" attribution link remains intact.

5. Third-Party Content and Links

The Site contains links to external websites (including schools.nyc.gov, myschools.nyc, Wikipedia, school websites, and others) and uses Google AdSense to display advertising. We do not control, endorse, or guarantee the accuracy of third-party content, and we are not responsible for the practices of third-party sites or services. Your interactions with third-party content are governed by the terms and policies of those third parties.

6. Advertising

The Site displays advertising through Google AdSense. Advertising helps keep the Site free. Ads shown on the Site:

  • Are not endorsements by us of any product or service
  • May be personalized or non-personalized depending on your jurisdiction, your consent preferences, and whether the page is directed to children (see Privacy Policy)
  • May be marked with "Ad" or "Sponsored" labels as required by law

We do not control which specific ads are shown. We do not accept payment from advertisers in exchange for editorial coverage.

7. User-Submitted Content

If you submit feedback, suggestions, contact form messages, or other content to us, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual license to use that content for the purposes of operating, improving, and promoting the Site. You represent that any content you submit is your own and does not violate any third party's rights.

You agree not to submit:

  • Personal information about other people without their consent
  • Content that is unlawful, defamatory, harassing, or abusive
  • Confidential information you are not authorized to share
  • Spam, promotional content unrelated to the Site, or malicious content

8. Disclaimers

THE SITE AND ALL CONTENT, CALCULATORS, AND PRACTICE TESTS ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR ACCURACY.

WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT:

  • The Site will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free
  • Score estimates produced by the calculator will match official SHSAT scores
  • Practice test performance will predict actual SHSAT performance
  • Cutoff scores or other data are current at all times (we make best efforts to keep data current)
  • The Site will be available at all times or in all locations

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE OPERATORS OF THIS SITE — INCLUDING FAHAD SHOAIB, ELISA AHMED, AND ANY CONTRIBUTORS OR AFFILIATES — SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR DATA, WHETHER INCURRED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, ARISING FROM:

  • Your use of, or inability to use, the Site
  • Any errors or inaccuracies in the calculator, practice tests, or other content
  • Any decision you make based on information from the Site, including SHSAT preparation strategies, school choices, or admissions ranking decisions
  • Unauthorized access to or alteration of your transmissions or data
  • Statements or conduct of any third party on the Site

OUR TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM RELATED TO THE SITE SHALL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED US DOLLARS ($100).

Some jurisdictions do not allow exclusion or limitation of certain damages. In those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the operators of this Site from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your violation of these Terms or your misuse of the Site.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Site at our discretion, without notice, for any reason — including if we believe you have violated these Terms.

12. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any disputes arising from or related to the Site or these Terms shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in New York, NY, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be highlighted on the Site for at least 30 days. Your continued use of the Site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
