This Privacy Policy explains how SHSAT Score Calculator ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you visit shsat-scorecalculator.com (the "Site"). We are committed to protecting the privacy of all visitors, with special care for the families and students who use this Site to prepare for the New York City Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT).
If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the Site.
1. Who We Are
SHSAT Score Calculator is an independent educational resource. It is not affiliated with the New York City Department of Education, the NYC Public Schools, MySchools NYC, or any specialized high school. The Site is operated by Fahad Shoaib, with editorial content reviewed by Elisa Ahmed, an NYC Department of Education teacher.

2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information you provide directly
The Site does not require account registration. The only ways you can provide information directly are:
- Contact form submissions: If you use the contact form, we collect your name, email address, and the contents of your message.
- Optional newsletter signup (if enabled): If you subscribe to a newsletter, we collect your email address.
2.2 Information collected automatically
When you visit the Site, certain information is collected automatically, including:
- Log data: IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referring URL, pages viewed, and the date and time of your visit.
- Device information: Device type (desktop, tablet, mobile), screen resolution, language preference.
- Usage data: Which pages you visit, time spent on pages, links clicked.
2.3 Information NOT collected by the calculator
The SHSAT score calculator on this Site runs entirely in your browser. The raw scores you enter, the scaled scores generated, and any personal predictions are not transmitted to our servers, stored on our servers, or shared with any third party. Score calculations happen locally on your device.

3. How We Use Information
We use the information collected to:
- Operate and maintain the Site
- Respond to inquiries submitted via the contact form
- Analyze Site traffic to improve content and user experience

- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or security incidents
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not sell personal information. We do not use personal information to make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.
4. Children's Privacy and COPPA
The SHSAT is taken primarily by students in 8th and 9th grade, many of whom are under the age of 13. We take children's privacy seriously and comply with the United States Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA, 15 U.S.C. §§ 6501–6506).
- The Site is intended to be used by parents, guardians, educators, and students.
- We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent.
- The score calculator operates entirely client-side and does not transmit calculated scores.
- We do not display behaviorally targeted advertising to children. Google AdSense advertising on this Site is configured with non-personalized ads where children are likely to view content. See Section 5.
- We do not require account registration or login.

5. Google AdSense and Third-Party Advertising
The Site uses Google AdSense (publisher ID: pub-5373629965911897) to display advertising.
5.1 How Google AdSense works
- Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this Site.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this Site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- The DoubleClick DART cookie is used by Google in the ads served on AdSense publisher websites displaying AdSense ads.

6. Analytics
The Site may use Google Analytics or similar analytics services to understand traffic patterns. Analytics services may use cookies to track aggregate, anonymized usage data. We have configured analytics to anonymize IP addresses where supported.

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information.

8. Data Retention
- Contact form submissions: Retained for up to 24 months after the last communication, then deleted unless required for legal or business reasons.
- Analytics data: Retained per the provider's standard retention period (typically 14–26 months for Google Analytics).
- Server logs: Retained for up to 90 days for security and debugging purposes.

The Site is hosted on servers that may be located in the United States or other countries. If you access the Site from outside the country where our servers are located, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in a country with different data protection laws than your country of residence.
11. Data Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, including HTTPS encryption for all pages, secure hosting infrastructure, and access controls on backend systems. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

The Site contains links to external sites including but not limited to schools.nyc.gov, myschools.nyc, Wikipedia, and various NYC specialized high school websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these external sites. We encourage you to read the privacy policies of any external sites you visit.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be highlighted on the Site for at least 30 days. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
